Welcome to our 2023 Summer Staff

Crystal and Sarah were thrown right into the Broom Bash! Pictured here with amazing volunteer, Carlo Kuhlenschmidt and our biologist, Dr. Erin O'Brien.

Conservation Interpreter- Crystal Graham

Hi Everyone!

My name is Crystal and I'm the new summer student working in Outreach and Education with Sue at the Conservancy. During the school year I am working to complete a Bachelors of Science in Marine Biology and minor in Indigenous Studies at the University of Victoria. Originally I am from southern California and have been living on Vancouver Island for 3 years now. In my free time I love to swim in the ocean, go hiking, and dabble in the arts from time to time. I am so excited to be a part of the Penders community this summer. If you see me out and about don't be shy, feel free to say hi !

Ecological Technician-Sarah DeVries

Originally from Southern Ontario, Sarah moved to Victoria, B.C. two years ago, and has since fallen in love with the nature that the region has to offer. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Master of Science. During her M.Sc., she studied genetic sources of variation in fireweed in the Kananaskis Valley. Sarah is an avid rock climber and can often be found staring at boulders in the woods, questioning how climbable they are. Sarah is working as the Ecological Technician for the summer and is enthusiastic to be contributing to the conservation and restoration of some of the beautiful ecosystems within the Gulf Islands.
