As the flower buds began to swell on Oregon Grape around the island I found myself ready for spring and for the gardening projects I’ve got planned. It's easy to forget that in February we still have a couple of months of winter.

Ever the optimist and garden planner, I’m opening the nursery for sales. Starting on February 1, 2025, Pender Native Plants will be open every Saturday from 10 am - 2 pm selling a wide range of native plants, many of which have been propagated from local specimens.

We've been busy through these dark, cold months taking cuttings and collecting seed. It's important that we try to use local, native specimens for propagation as these plants will be better suited to life on Pender.

If you think you have Pacific Ninebark (Physocarpus capitatus) or Mock Orange (Philadelphus lewisii) on your property and are willing to let us take a few small and discreet branches, please let me know.

Stay tuned for my monthly thoughts on the nursery and gardening.
