Career Opportunity: Education and Communications Coordinator



Pender Islands Conservancy invites applications for a full-time Education and Communications Coordinator, beginning April 18, 2022. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and be legally entitled to work in Canada.


Hours: 35 hours per week


Wage: $25/hour


Accommodations: The successful applicant will be responsible for finding their own accommodations on Pender Island, but the Pender Conservancy will assist in this process with communications among our contacts in the community.


COVID-19: Activities are subject to change depending on provincial health orders, and work from home may be required. A workplace safety plan will be developed and implemented in collaboration with the successful applicant at the start of the work term, based on health orders or restrictions in place at that time.


Position duties:

The successful candidate will report to the Conservancy Board of Directors, coordinate education program planning with the Education Committee, and collaborate with the Ecology and Conservation Director as necessary. Responsibilities will include education program development (e.g. camps, workshops, seminars, visual and interactive displays), coordination of Conservancy Nature Centre operation, development of collaborations with local school groups and other conservation organizations around the Salish Sea, community outreach, membership and volunteer engagement, training and supervision of seasonal staff, as well as writing grant funding proposals.


Required qualifications:

  • Degree in ecology, conservation, environmental education or related field; Masters preferred

  • Team leadership and supervisory experience

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment

  • Organization and time management skills

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with supervision and team management experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Willing to undergo criminal record check for work with youth


Assets:

  • Demonstrated interest in and ability helping and engaging others in hands-on learning about nature and conservation

  • Understanding of active learning principles and learning styles

  • Familiarity with social media platforms appropriate for advertising and promoting Conservancy programs and events

  • Familiarity with computer software for preparing learning materials and displays
