2017 Fall Fair Report

August 26 was the 2017 Pender Islands Fall Fair, first held in 1932.

The theme was “In Simpler Times”, and the guest of honour a long-time and dearly-loved Pender resident, Jean Bradley.

A highlight of the Fair this year was an evening concert by “Daniel Lapp and Friends”, with Pender Islands’ Twin Island Cider and local beer on draught in the beer garden, Pender Island lamb added to the barbecue fare, and a special focus was on making this fare “zero-waste", aided by the Recycling Society.  From Barbara Truit comes this Thank You.

As always, there was livestock – sheep, goats, pigs, poultry – and farm and farm product displays.  There were games for all ages and many community displays. This year, as always, volunteers were treated to food and drink to fuel them as they helped set-up and take-down.

Hoynes was on-tap and a hit

There were no entry fees this year, and prize monies were not given out (cash was awarded this year in the children’s & young people’s sections only), but there were ribbons, trophies and fun.
